Delete Your Account

Last updated: October 2026

You can delete your Retext account at any time from any of the Retext apps. Deleting your account removes it and the data stored with it from Retext's servers. Data stored on your devices is covered below. You need to be signed in to delete your account. If you can't sign in, see If you can't sign in below.

Deletion is permanent. It takes effect immediately and can't be undone. We can't restore a deleted account or its synced data.

How to Delete Your Account

Mac

  1. Open Retext and go to Settings.
  2. In the Account section, click Delete Account…
  3. Confirm by clicking Delete Account.

Retext signs you out. Snippets saved on your Mac stay on your Mac, and so does a Pro license activated on it.

iPhone and iPad

  1. Open Retext and tap the account icon at the top of your snippet list.
  2. Tap Delete Account.
  3. Confirm by tapping Delete Account. If you use Sign in with Apple, you'll be asked to confirm with Apple too.

This also clears the snippets on your device, including those in the Retext keyboard.

Android

  1. Open Retext and tap the Settings icon.
  2. Under Account, tap Delete account.
  3. Confirm by tapping Delete.

This also clears the snippets on your phone.

If You Own a Team

You can't delete your account while you own a team, including a team you created. Transfer ownership to another member or delete the team first, then delete your account. The app will tell you if this applies to you, and nothing is deleted until you do.

What Is Deleted

  • Your account, including your name, email address and Google or Apple sign-in link
  • Personal data stored with your account on Retext's servers, such as snippets you have synced (team snippets are handled separately, see below)
  • The link between your account and your Pro license key
  • Your team memberships and team invitations sent by you or to your email address
  • Your sync history
  • Your referral code and the referrals you made
  • Your enrollment in Retext emails
  • Your sign-in sessions. Other devices are signed out the next time they try to refresh their session.
  • If you used Sign in with Apple, the iPhone app asks Apple to revoke Retext's access to your Apple ID.

What Is Kept

  • Team snippets you wrote belong to the team, so they stay with the team and are reassigned to the team's creator. Their edit history keeps an internal ID with no personal information.
  • Billing records. Polar.sh is our merchant of record and keeps its own records of your purchases and subscriptions, as it is required to. Deleting your Retext account doesn't cancel a subscription; manage or cancel it with Polar.sh. See Polar.sh's Privacy Policy.
  • Referral rewards. If someone referred you, their referral record is kept for their reward history, with your email address removed.
  • Data on your Mac. Snippets and settings stored on your Mac stay there after you delete your account. Moving Retext to the Trash does not remove them, and they come back if you reinstall. To remove them, see Clearing Retext from your Mac. The iPhone, iPad and Android apps clear their snippets when you delete your account.
  • Analytics and email provider records are not removed automatically. Email us if you'd like them removed.

Clearing Retext from Your Mac

Your Mac keeps its own copy of your snippets, outside the Retext app. To remove everything Retext stored on your Mac:

  1. Quit Retext (menu bar icon → Quit).
  2. Open Terminal and run defaults delete me.myers.aaron.Retext. This removes your personal snippets and settings.
  3. In Finder, choose Go → Go to Folder, enter ~/Library/Application Support/Retext and move that folder to the Trash. It holds the offline copy of team snippets.
  4. Optionally, open Keychain Access, search for com.retext.app and delete the items you find. They hold your sign-in and any Anthropic API key you added.
  5. Move the Retext app to the Trash.

If You Can't Sign In

If you no longer have access to your account or the Retext apps, email support@retext.io from the email address on your account and ask us to delete it. We may ask you to confirm that the account is yours before we delete it.
