How do I grant Accessibility permissions?
Retext needs Accessibility permissions to detect your trigger keywords. When you first launch the app, macOS will prompt you to grant access. Go to System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility and enable Retext. You may need to restart the app after granting permissions.
How do I create a snippet?
Click the "New Snippet" button, enter a trigger (e.g., "addr"), and the text you want it to expand to (e.g., your full address). Save the snippet, and whenever you type ;addr anywhere on your Mac, it will be replaced with your address.
What's the trigger prefix?
All triggers start with a semicolon (;). If your snippet trigger is "hello", you type ;hello to expand it. This prevents accidental expansions when typing normal words.
Common Issues
Snippets aren't expanding
Make sure you've granted Accessibility permissions. If you have, try removing and re-adding Retext in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility. Also ensure Retext is running (check for the icon in your menu bar).
Snippets don't work in certain apps
Some apps with custom text input (like certain terminal emulators or remote desktop apps) may not work with text expansion. This is a limitation of how these apps handle keyboard input.
The app says I need a Pro license
The free version of Retext is limited to 3 snippets. To create unlimited snippets and access AI-powered generation, upgrade to Pro. If you've already purchased Pro but it's not showing, click "Manage" in Settings and re-enter your license key.
How do I activate my Pro license?
After purchasing, you'll receive a license key via email. Open Retext, go to Settings, click "Upgrade" or "Manage" in the License section, and enter your license key. Your Pro features will activate immediately.

How does AI generation work?
Pro users can generate snippet content using AI. Enter a title for your snippet, and the AI will suggest appropriate content based on common use cases. You can regenerate or edit the result before saving.
Can I cancel my Pro subscription?
Yes, you can cancel anytime through your Polar.sh account. Your Pro features will remain active until the end of your current billing period.
