Talk it through, keep the notes
Record a thought, a call or a meeting. Retext transcribes it on your Mac and turns it into a summary, action items and snippets you can reuse.

How it works
Record
Click Record Note. A small panel shows a timer and a live waveform, with Pause, Restart, Stop and Cancel.
Retext transcribes it on your Mac
When you stop, the recording is transcribed with Apple's on-device speech engine. It never goes to a server.
Get a summary and action items
With Apple Intelligence turned on, Retext writes a title, a short summary and a list of action items, also on your Mac.
Every note, sorted for you
Each note comes back with three parts, plus the full transcript.
Title
A short name so you can find it later.
Summary
The gist, in a few sentences.
Action items
The to-dos, pulled out as a list.
From a note to a snippet
A searchable library
Every note lands in one window. Search finds words in the title, summary, action items or the full transcript.
Save as a snippet
Turn a summary or a list of action items into a snippet. Retext suggests a trigger like ;todo-weekly-sync.
Copy or export as Markdown
Copy a note as Markdown to paste anywhere, or export it as a .md file.
Pause when you need to
Pausing turns the mic off and keeps the recording open, so you can pick up where you left off.
Private by design
Stays on your Mac
Recording, transcription and the summary all happen on your Mac, and your notes are saved there.
Transcript only, by default
Once a note is transcribed, Retext deletes the audio and keeps the text. Choose Keep audio in Settings if you want the recording too.
The mic opens when you click Record
Retext asks for the microphone the first time you record a note, not before.
Questions? Answers.
What do I need?
Notes needs macOS 26 to transcribe recordings on your Mac. Summaries and action items need Apple Intelligence; without it you still get the full transcript and a title.
Is my recording uploaded anywhere?
Never. Notes are always transcribed on the device that recorded them.
What happens to the audio?
By default Retext deletes it once the transcript is ready. If transcription fails, the audio is kept so you can try again.
Can I record long meetings?
Yes. Long recordings are transcribed in sections and summarized in parts. Only record people who've agreed to it.
How much does it cost?
Recording, transcription and summaries come with every plan, Free included. See the pricing section for Retext's plans.
