Your snippets, one Tab away
Retext shows your snippets as faint ghost text while you type, and a few AI-suggested words when no snippet fits. Press Tab to accept, or keep typing to ignore it.

Four ways it helps
Finish a trigger
Start typing a trigger like ;em and pause. Retext shows the rest, ;email-sig, in faint text. Press Tab and the full snippet expands.
Finish a snippet's text
Start typing words that begin one of your snippets, like "Here's my cal", and Retext offers the rest of it.
Suggest the next few words
When no snippet fits, Apple's on-device model offers up to eight words to finish your sentence. It only reads the text before your cursor, in the field you're typing in.
Preview dynamic snippets
Snippets with fields show the way they'll read: today's date filled in, and fill-ins as [Name]. Press Tab to expand the whole thing.
Keys you already know
Built to stay out of your way
Your snippets, fully expanded
Accepting a trigger runs the normal snippet expansion, so fill-in fields and {cursor} work the same as typing the trigger.
Stays out of sensitive places
No suggestions in password fields, terminals, password managers, virtual machines or remote desktops. AI suggestions also skip code editors unless you add them.
Never in your way
Ghost text only appears after you pause. Type something different and it disappears; with nothing showing, Tab and the arrow keys work as normal.
Questions? Answers.
Is this AI autocomplete?
It's both, and both are in beta. Your snippets always come first, so a saved answer reads exactly the way you wrote it. When no snippet fits and AI suggestions are on, Apple's on-device model offers up to eight words. AI suggestions need Apple Intelligence.
Does anything leave my Mac?
No. Snippet suggestions come from the snippets on your Mac, and AI suggestions are written on your Mac by Apple's on-device model. The text Retext reads to make them never leaves your Mac.
Which apps does it work in?
Apps that tell Retext where your cursor is, like Mail, Notes and TextEdit. If an app doesn't, Retext shows nothing rather than guess where the text should go.
How do I turn it on?
Open Settings in Retext, then Autocomplete. Turn on Snippet Suggestions, and AI suggestions too if you want them.
How much does it cost?
Autocomplete comes with every plan, Free included. See the pricing section for Retext's plans.
