Terms of Service

1. Acceptance of Terms

By downloading, installing, or using Retext ("the Application"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the Application.

2. Description of Service

Retext is a macOS application that provides text expansion functionality. The Application allows you to create snippets that automatically expand when you type designated trigger keywords.

3. License Grant

Free License

The free version of Retext grants you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the Application with up to 3 snippets for personal or commercial purposes.

Pro License

A Pro license grants you a non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use all features of the Application, including unlimited snippets and AI-powered generation, for personal or commercial purposes. The license is valid for the duration of your active subscription.

4. Restrictions

You agree not to:

  • Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the Application
  • Modify, adapt, or create derivative works based on the Application
  • Distribute, sell, lease, or sublicense the Application
  • Use the Application for any unlawful purpose
  • Circumvent any licensing or usage restrictions
  • Share your license key with others

5. Accessibility Permissions

The Application requires macOS Accessibility permissions to function. By granting these permissions, you acknowledge that the Application will intercept keyboard input system-wide to detect trigger keywords. The Application processes this input locally and does not transmit, log, or store your keystrokes.

6. AI-Powered Features

Pro users have access to AI-powered snippet generation. By using these features, you agree that:

  • Your prompts will be processed by third-party AI services (Anthropic)
  • You will not use AI features to generate harmful, illegal, or abusive content
  • AI-generated content may not always be accurate or appropriate
  • You are responsible for reviewing and editing AI-generated content before use

7. Payment and Subscriptions

Pro licenses are available as monthly or annual subscriptions, processed through Polar.sh. By purchasing a subscription, you agree to:

  • Pay the applicable subscription fees
  • Automatic renewal unless cancelled before the renewal date
  • Polar.sh's terms of service and payment policies

You may cancel your subscription at any time through your Polar.sh account. Cancellation will take effect at the end of your current billing period.

8. Refund Policy

We offer refunds on a case-by-case basis. If you are unsatisfied with your purchase, please contact us at support@retext.io within 14 days of purchase to request a refund.

9. Intellectual Property

The Application, including its code, design, logos, and documentation, is the intellectual property of Retext and is protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws. Your use of the Application does not grant you any ownership rights.

10. Disclaimer of Warranties

THE APPLICATION IS PROVIDED "AS IS" WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NONINFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE APPLICATION WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR FREE OF HARMFUL COMPONENTS.

11. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL RETEXT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, OR USE, ARISING OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH YOUR USE OF THE APPLICATION.

12. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Retext and its officers, directors, employees, and agents from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses (including reasonable attorney's fees) arising from your use of the Application or violation of these Terms.

13. Modifications to Terms

We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time. We will notify you of any material changes by posting the updated Terms on our website. Your continued use of the Application after such changes constitutes your acceptance of the new Terms.

14. Termination

We may terminate or suspend your access to the Application at any time, without prior notice, for conduct that we believe violates these Terms or is harmful to other users, us, or third parties.

15. Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the United States, without regard to its conflict of law provisions.
